This qualification will benefit those working directly with patients/clients in a health and social care environment. It will help care workers recognise the causes of infection and help them to assess the risks that their actions have on the health of their patients/clients whether that is in residential care or in their own homes, in private or public care sectors.

- Terminology
- Relationship of hazard and risk in prioritising action
- Relevant legislation relating to hygiene practice
- Concepts of hygiene hazards and infection control
- Importance of good personal hygiene
- Need for high standards of cleanliness to help prevent infection
Schedule: 9.30am - 3.30pm (half hour lunch break plus 2 x 15 minute breaks)

The candidates are assessed by an examination paper consisting of 15 multiple choice questions to be completed in 30 minutes under examination conditions. Candidates must participate in at least 80% of the course to be eligible to take the examination.
Candidates who achieve 10 or more correct answers will pass the examination and receive a certificate.
Certified by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health when successful.
