Student is Cut Above the Rest
Hayley Robinson began carving out her butchery career as a Saturday person.
And now thanks to a combination of incredibly hard work, lots of effort and dedication, Hayley has been presented with the Learner of the Year for 2009.
Hayley started training with Meat East Anglia Trades (Ipswich) Ltd on 25th May 2005 as an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship after working at Hills Butchers for 5 years.
Hayley is not only a qualified butcher to a high standard, she also gained her Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Meat and Poultry, Level 3 Certificate in Management, Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene and Safety (with a credit), Keys Skills Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, NVQ Level 2 in Meat and Poultry Butchery Operations and HACCP Certificates.
It may have been by default that Hayley ended up as a Saturday person at the age of 14 years old, after deciding her rainy days of delivering newspapers were out and she preferred the butcher shop. It is without doubt that Hayley worked her socks off to achieve her goals mentioned above, putting in lots of her time with help and support from Hills Butchers and M.E.A.T (Ipswich) Ltd.
Michael owner of Hill Butchers said “Hayley was definitely a worthy candidate and is really glad she won the award and we are proud to have Hayley working for Hills Butchers”.
Hayley has enjoyed the course immensely. She feels it has helped validate her skills with a nationally recognised qualification, and certificates she can proudly display in the shop.
Hayley enjoys every aspect of her job, from cutting meat for display to making sausages and burgers. Hayley was chosen as learner of the year from 157 students from all over the country with 10% of learners being female. A MEAT trainer visited Hayley throughout the years to assess her progress on the course, which is funded by the Learning & Skills Council, and students also have telephone support.
Hayley's Employer Mike of Hills Butchers said he was pleased to see her efforts recognised and Hayley is really thrilled to be M.E.A.T (Ipswich) Ltd 2009 Learner of the year.
